Hunting McRae Scarf

The Hunting McRae tartan is unusual in that not only does it have a lavender ground, but the actual shade of green is specified, "Reseda," or sea foam green. Usually in tartan cloth, the color is specified, i.e. "red,", "green," "blue," etc., but the hue is left up to the weaver. This is no doubt due to the pretense that the weaver was using natural dyes and so could not be precise in color choice. The fact is that most tartans were devised after the invention of aniline dyes, and precision in color selection was not only possible, but even desired.
